In the current cyber security landscape, email security should be top of mind for business owners. Even if you’re organization is on a large email platform like Google or Office 365, you need to consider additional security as these platforms like many have become targets. Harry Brelsford of The CannaTech Group sits down with Dan Foote of DanTech Services, Inc. to chat about the importance of Cyber Security and some new products you should investigate.

Um Hey everybody welcome back to the Canna tech podcast with our frequent contributor Dan foot in Alaska. So that let’s just take a second to talk about that you’re in a cabin or you’re you’re in a little bit more remote part of Alaska in Anchorage what’s going on?
Dan Foote
Well, we’re about about 100 minutes 110 minutes drive time from Anchorage, we’re down in Cooper Landing. Probably one of the most beautiful spots on the Kenai River. It’s just, it’s one of my favorite places to go. The river here is iconic Kenai River Drifters. Lodge is one of our clients down here. And they are just gracious hosts. And we have a really good time down here. And it’s almost like a vacation a mini vacation. So which is the first thing first time we’ve done this in a while. So that’s where we are. And in the process of all of this, we’re working on building business and working on developing marketing plans for the camera tech or the cannabis industry here in Alaska. Cool.

Well, let’s talk about you said you’re you’re looking at some new cybersecurity products. Talk Talk to me.
Dan Foote
Well, I had the opportunity to go to Denver this last week to a training conference, and have learned a bit about some products, one which provides an SAIC security edge, like a VPN, while it is a VPN service that’s cost effective and, and manageable. And also a few other products that we’re going to be looking at that follow in the realm of email security, computer security, etc. Your if you’re on any large email platform like Google or office 365, that platforms is now a target. And we’re looking to make sure that we can secure our clients that use either of those platforms to a better degree. So we’re looking at products like that. And your security, cybersecurity is the number one thing that that we have to focus on. Everything else virtually takes second place other than direct support of our clients. Yep.

Are you switching out products? So when you’re looking at new products, does that mean you’re retiring? Some solution?
Dan Foote
Potentially. But we’re I’m also a strong believer in what has worked well, you know, what takes you to the dance, stay with it, right? We’ve got we’ve got a good stack, I’m looking to augment it more than replace it. Okay, those who you can’t, you can’t watch everything. And there’s a couple large players out there that we have trusted with our security for quite some time that are actually added additional services, like managed detection and response. And we’re looking to add more of that their services into our stack as well. So always try to refine towards not getting too spread out. But in this industry, there are so many products, so many vendors out there, so many solutions, that, you know, you really do have to take a cautious look at whatever somebody is promoting. And and sometimes, you know, the product might be great. But what’s your what’s your local resource involvement? How much man time and manpower time is going to be involved in supporting that product? And so you have to look at that as well. Yeah.
